Privacy Policy

Effective September 18, 2026 · Version 1.0

This policy explains what happens to information you send through blackoutmedia.org. It covers this website only. It does not cover Instagram, email you send us directly, or anything that happens at an event we cover.

1. Who We Are

Blackout Media is a multimedia sports collective. We operate this website and we decide what happens to the information collected through it.

The website itself is built and maintained for us by Python Visuals LLC (New York, DOS ID 7935696), which stores and processes submissions on our behalf. Python Visuals acts only on our instructions and does not use your information for its own purposes.

2. What We Collect

There is exactly one place on this site where you can give us information: the coverage request form. It asks for:

FieldRequiredWhy we ask
NameYesTo know who is asking
EmailYesTo reply to you
PhoneNoTo reach you faster about a date
Instagram handleNoTo see your event and tag coverage correctly
EventNoTo know what you want covered
SportNoTo assign the right shooter
MessageNoAnything else you want to tell us

That is the complete list of what the form asks for. We do not ask for payment details on this site, we do not ask for a date of birth, and we have no account or login for visitors.

Information about event organizers

We also hold contact details for event organizers and promotions — a name, an email, sometimes an Instagram handle or a phone number — that did not come from the form. These were gathered from public event listings and public web pages, up to May 2026, so that we knew who to approach about covering an event.

We are not collecting any more of it. Nothing has been added since then, and the tools that gathered it are no longer running.

Most of these records are organizations rather than individual people. If you are in there and would rather not be, write to us and we will remove you. You do not need to give a reason, and it does not affect whether we cover your event.

Information collected automatically

Our host, Cloudflare, records standard request data — IP address, browser type, the page requested, and timing — for security, performance and abuse prevention. We also receive aggregate, cookieless analytics from Cloudflare Web Analytics: page views, referrers and country-level location, with no identifier that follows you between visits.

3. Cookies

This website sets no cookies. It does not use browser local storage or session storage either. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.

Cloudflare Web Analytics, described above, is cookieless by design — this is the reason we can make that statement. Cloudflare may set a short-lived security cookie if it needs to challenge suspicious traffic; that is a security function, not tracking, and we do not read it.

Full detail: Cookie Policy.

4. Where It Goes

When you submit the coverage form, your answers are sent to a database operated for us by Python Visuals LLC and stored in the United States. Nothing about your submission is published, sold, or shared with advertisers.

5. Photographs

We are a sports photography and coverage collective, so the largest category of personal information on this site is not form data — it is images of people at public sporting events.

Photographs published in our galleries and articles are hosted on Cloudflare R2 and are publicly accessible by their web address. Anyone with the link can view an image, whether or not they reached it through this site. We publish images we captured or licensed in the course of covering an event.

If you appear in a photograph on this site and want it removed, write to us at [email protected]. Tell us which image or which gallery. We will take it down.

6. How Long We Keep It

7. Your Rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

Write to [email protected], or to [email protected] if you would rather go to the people who hold the database. We answer within 45 days and will tell you if we need longer.

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA gives you these rights specifically, plus the right not to be treated differently for exercising them. We will not deny you coverage, charge you more, or give you a worse service because you asked.

8. We Do Not Sell Your Information

Blackout Media does not sell or rent personal information, and never has. We do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. There is no advertising network on this site.

9. Children

This website is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them through the form. Youth athletes do appear in event photography; §5 is how a parent or guardian asks for an image to come down, and we treat those requests the same as any other.

10. Security (New York SHIELD Act)

New York's SHIELD Act requires reasonable safeguards. Ours, stated plainly:

Administrative

Access to submissions is limited to Blackout Media staff and the Python Visuals personnel who maintain the system. Administrative access requires an authenticated account.

Technical

Traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). The database enforces row-level access control, so the public website cannot read submissions — it can only add one. Administrative actions are logged.

Physical

Data is held in the data centres of our providers (Cloudflare, Supabase), which maintain their own physical security programmes. We keep no customer data on local machines as a matter of routine.

11. If There Is a Breach

If personal information held through this site is exposed, we will notify affected people without unreasonable delay, and — as New York General Business Law §899-aa requires — notify the New York Attorney General, the Department of State, and the State Police. We will tell you what happened, what was involved, and what we are doing about it.

12. Changes

If this policy changes we will update the effective date at the top. Material changes will be noted on the site.
